On National Manufacturing Day, a Look at Mentis Sciences’ Advanced Composites

This year, National Manufacturing Day falls on Oct. 2, serving as a celebration of all things manufacturing, its innovations and the people who help fuel the field forward. At Mentis Sciences, we are proud to be one of the dedicated teams working to shape this industry, with contributions such as our advanced composites that are used in applications of all shapes and sizes.

Just read on to learn more about Mentis Sciences’ advanced composites and how our manufactured materials may be able to serve your organization’s unique needs, both today, and well into the future. Take a look.

Exceptional endeavors in manufacturing

Quality composite solutions are the ingredients to successful projects—the kind where accuracy and precision matter most, from high-temperature missile radomes and nosecones, to prosthetic and orthotic devices and so much more. In addition to utilizing the standard composite manufacturing methods, Mentis Sciences takes it a step further with proprietary fiber placement processes, too. Our composite fabrication work includes:

  • Braiding (braided composites)
  • Filament Winding
  • Ultra-High Tension (UHT) Winding
  • Multi-axis Fiber Placement
  • Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) & Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM)
  • Wet Layup
  • Pre-Preg Layup
  • Tow Preg (Braiding)

Expertise with a wide variety of materials

Our capabilities in advanced composites are made possible by our close familiarity with a wide variety of materials, including graphite/carbon fiber, organic fibers like cotton and hemp, ceramic fibers, high purity quartz and more. Do you have specific project needs? We have the expertise and equipment needed to handle these materials and many more with the deftness demanded by modern markets. Our materials are tested and analyzed to the extreme because we know these materials will be used in extreme conditions.

Take, for example, the advanced composite radome material we’ve developed as a competitor to common ceramic solutions. It can maintain both structural and electrical performance at temperatures of nearly 2000 degrees Fahrenheit! It takes a special commitment and expertise to develop advanced composites that can handle these unique conditions. Fortunately, with more than 40 years of experience engineering these composite solutions, Mentis Sciences is more than up to the task at hand.

Manufacturing and so much more

In addition to the physical manufacturing of advanced composites and other technologies, Mentis Sciences is dedicated to the development of manufacturing minds. Through our Internship Program, students are given the hands-on opportunity to learn more about STEM and engage in engineering activities, mentoring and more.

At Mentis Sciences, we know that the field of manufacturing, and the needs of the various industries it serves, are ever-changing—which is why we are so proud of a program that’s geared to help today’s students lead tomorrow’s manufacturing efforts in meaningful, informed ways.

On National Manufacturing Day and all year long, Mentis Sciences celebrates the scientists, suppliers, engineers, and other professionals who help make our manufacturing happen—and, of course, the clients we proudly serve every day. Contact us today to see what we can do for your advanced composites needs and so much more.
